Most of us just want to contribute positively to society in the most appropriate and impactful way, not purposefully offending anyone. However, there is tension in Australia, and it takes awareness and skill to navigate the complexities of over 270 different Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Language Groups and over 230 years of a challenging shared history. With our specialised learning we take these very important next steps with you. Enabling you to understand alternate perspectives and ancient wisdom, and how they relate to self-reflective practices for transformative action to truly take place.

See below for an example of how your learning journey could be created against our framework:

Each box represents the four indicators you may try and progress in.

These indicators can describe the specific and observable behaviours that demonstrate your capability in action.

Level 1 – Beginning
(Cultural Awareness)

Foundational

You might say: “I’ve done some online and in-person training but I’m not confident about what happens next? I’m nervous of offending someone if I try something”.

  • When you are Beginning you are learning, identifying and empathising.
  • Compliance training (L&D) and Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) deliverables.

Level 2 – Developing
(Cultural Safety)

Integrated

You might say: ”I consciously create culturally safe environments in my personal and professional spaces; I am aware of how diverse we are – I am an Ally.”

  • When you are Developing you are understanding, promoting and evaluating.
  • Increase in First Nations employment, employee satisfaction and talent retention.

Level 3 – Advancing
(Cultural Responsiveness)

Scalable

You might say: “I am open to new ideas that may conflict with the ideas, beliefs and values of my own culture, and I can see differences as equal – I am an Active Ally”!

  • When you are Advancing you are creating, providing and adapting.
  • Increase in First Nations procurement activity, updated policies, stronger relationships internally and externally, greater trust and brand equity.

Level 4 – Modelling
(Cultural Intelligence)

Systemic

You might say: “I look for every possible opportunity to have a more sophisticated conversation to understand others and chart a better way forward – I am an agent of change”!

  • When you are Modelling you are leading, endorsing and embedding.
  • Unity and strength across the organisation, zero racism, and exercising ancient wisdom with contemporary intelligence for better outcomes.

Proficiency levels are cumulative: for instance, it is assumed that somebody at proficiency Advancing demonstrates all behaviours, skills and knowledge listed under proficiency Beginning and Developing for that capability.

Testimonials

"Luke facilitated the delivery of often challenging, difficult information beautifully and in ways that enabled us all to be open to our lack of knowledge in some areas and in our emotional responses to others. It was insightful, poignant, riveting, challenging - but most importantly for me, it was optimistic. I left this training confident that by working together, talking more and finding ways to accept truths and to reconcile damage done, we can all move forward into a better Australia for all."

Telstra participant Sydney

"I am blown away by Luke's sensitive, skilled, empathetic, engaging and knowledgeable approach to running this training course. He had amazing technical and soft skills in the way he taught us, and he presented information in a way that encouraged such deep reflection. I'm also conscious that it would take great courage and vulnerability to share this kind of knowledge on topics that are so close to home. I am so grateful for his generosity in giving us the opportunity to deeply learn, rather than make the training a 'check the box' surface-level compliance exercise."

Telstra participant Sydney

"Being able to safely ask any question, and hear from First Nations people about the local culture, as well as the history of colonisation and it's affect, differences in First Nations worldview vs western etc deepens my understanding and moved me very greatly. This is such a helpful step towards truth-telling and increased awareness, and reconciliation."

Telstra participant Brisbane

"of a very high caliber, with very detailed information and facts, delivered openly and from the heart. The content is life-changing, and really struck a chord in terms of the importance of being an active ally."

Telstra participant Hobart

"The content of the First Nations cultural learning session was... just incredibly, powerfully articulated and delivered. Of the many, many corporate learning sessions I've undertaken over 30+ years, this one has moved me the most to behave differently - to learn more, see more, talk more and do more."

Telstra participant Melbourne

"...hard to put into words - an experience I will take with me for the rest of my life, and use as a means to teach others and shape a better future in Australia. A huge thank you to Luke for pouring his heart and soul into this, and to xxxx for funding the opportunity"

Telstra participant Melbourne

"Fascinating, life-changing, and essential for all leaders in the organisation AT LEAST. If not everyone."

Telstra participant Adelaide

"Confronting, powerful, thought provoking and at times very uncomfortable. Luke was an exceptional facilitator, I will carry the feelings from this session for a very long time."

Telstra participant Perth

"These are the conversations we need to have for Australia to mature."
